"Botany of Desire" by Michael Pollan is one of the most influential books I've read (if you've not read it, I highly recommend). One of the chapters traces the origin of the apple back to Kazakhstan and paints a picture of forests of apple trees... each tree different as the forest simply grew from apples that had fallen from other apple trees (no two seeds in a single apple are the same, the reason apple trees need to be grafted to get the same varieties). This chapter planted a seed in me of fascination with Kazakhstan, a burning desire to one day visit and hike through the apple tree forests the book described. 
 
Golden Hills Turquoise comes from Kazakhstan, the same land that created the apple created one of the rarest Turquoises in the world. I like to imagine the apples and the Turquoise together, sharing the land... both providing the world with some of the sweetest sweetness.
