In the coming weeks and months, I will be sharing jewelry that is made in collaboration with Studio Golden, focused on the theme of eyes. For a long time, I have been fascinated, infatuated, smitten with eye jewelry. Eyes have played a prominent role in jewelry for hundreds of years (if not longer). From the “evil eye” intended to ward off negative energy, to the “lover’s eye” wherein someone would wear the painted eye of their lover on a locket, reminding them of their ever-presence.

While looking back and creating pieces today based on what has come before is cool, I’m hoping this collection can invite new themes to old symbols (in this instance, the symbol of the eye). I am making these pieces in the spirit eyes are symbols of looking forward, symbols of looking inward, symbols of a gaze looking ahead toward a future filled with hope. New meaning for an ancient and revered symbol with a storied history.

Of course, today is tomorrow’s history and there are no rules that say we can’t imbue new meaning into things, that we can’t (re)define anything with today’s meaning. As I share the pieces that come off of my bench, I will sometimes reference back and sometimes reference forward, all in the spirit and the hope that we collectively never lose sight of the truth that we are the creators of our reality and we are planting the seeds today that will bloom into tomorrows and tomorrows tomorrows.

I am so thankful to be doing this in collaboration with a dear friend, a brilliant artist, a thoughtful human, a hilariously funny woman, and a truly dear person to my heart and my soul. Studio Golden and the work that comes from her workshop speaks to my soul. That her work can begin to make its way into my pieces is a true and sincere honor.

So with that, I am happy to present the first piece in what I hope will be long story told through stone and porcelain. A collection rooted in co-creating a tomorrow that reflects the world as we hope it can be… with eyes that see promise, with eyes that see truth, with eyes that see hope, with eyes that see connection, and with eyes that look out onto the world and into the future with love.]
