The Fire Opal was revered by Mayan and Aztec peoples, who called it “quetzalitzlipyollitli” or, “the stone of the bird of paradise.” I love learning how other cultures have interacted with and looked to stones for and as inspiration. A Bird of Paradise… of course. Fire opal is believed to give its wearer confidence, energy, and joy.

Ethically sourced Fire Opal set in sterling silver with fine silver bezel. Texture is made from recycled silver dust. Size 8 1/4.

All my pieces are individually handmade from natural stones and recycled metals. No two items are alike, and they will all have natural imperfections. These imperfections imbue the work with unique personality, grit, and story – the stuff of character.

Stone jewelry shouldn’t be worn in water or exposed to chemicals (soaps, lotions, detergents). I like to think of stones as living things (on much different time scales than the ones we are accustomed to). To extend their lives, we need to limit their exposure water and other chemicals/liquids.
